Boundary Realignment for Grantsville and Stansbury Area Elementary Schools

Tooele County School District recently completed boundary studies for six elementary schools in Grantsville City and Stansbury Park areas.

Boundary studies examine enrollment numbers at schools as communities grow, and explore solutions for:

  • Accommodating new students
  • Maximizing the use of school buildings
  • Maintaining a balance of class sizes
  • Funding and learning opportunities
  • Aligning school boundaries with neighborhoods, major roadways, and geographic features

Along with the boundary committee meetings, community surveys were distributed, open houses were conducted, and two public hearings were held for patrons to express concerns to the Board of Education

School boundary changes can impact student transportation. Students who live more than 1.5 miles away from their boundary school will be able to ride the bus. School Bus schedules are provided at the beginning of the school year. Once the boundaries have been determined, families can go to https://www.tooeleschools.org/apps/pages/elink for more information about bus pick-up/drop-off locations and times. Students who are attending a school out of boundaries are not eligible to ride the school bus.

If a student’s boundary school has changed due to the realignment and they would like to request to stay at their current school, parents or guardians can fill out an Open Enrollment Application. It is then submitted to the district office for approval. School capacity and classroom or grade level size are considered when approving a student for an out-of-boundary request. If there is room, the request to attend an out-of-boundary school is accepted.

Grantsville Area: Currently, all elementary students in Grantsville attend either Grantsville Elementary or Willow Elementary. This fall, Twenty Wells Elementary will open in Grantsville. In August 2021, the boundary advisory committee created four possible boundary options. A community survey was conducted for those residing within the Grantsville area, and both the survey results and the committee’s recommendations favored option 3. However, with additional growth there was a need to re-look at the boundaries in the area and propose other options. The Grantsville Area Director shared the new proposal with board members and school leadership. April 12, 2022, the board unanimously agreed with boundary option 2 (see attached image of map). The new boundaries will take effect in the 2022-2023 school year. Twenty Wells Elementary is being built with bond funds approved by voters in the 2020 election and is on schedule to open in August.

Stansbury Area: A boundary review was conducted to balance enrolment across Rose Springs Elementary, Stansbury Park Elementary, and Old Mill Elementary. Based on multiple factors, the boundary committee came up with three different boundary options. The impacted community was surveyed with most survey results requesting boundary option 1 (see attached image of map). On April 12, 2022, the board voted to implement boundary option 1 for the 2022-2023 school year for Rose Springs Elementary, Stansbury Park Elementary, and Old Mill Elementary.
